two bills

This Thanksgiving, when you’re sitting down for some food and football with your loving, tolerant family (except for racist Uncle Mitch, but he’s a lost cause), please be sure to take a moment to say the things that you’re thankful for. That you’ve got a house to call a home, that there are people out there who love you, that you’re not personally involved in the possibly phony anti-gay receipt story that might be Balloon Boy all over again.

To recap: Dayna Morales, a server at Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater, New Jersey, posted a photo on Facebook earlier this month of a bill she received with a special note in lieu of a tip. It read, “I’m sorry but I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle.” People got outraged, Morales received sympathy money from complete strangers, and the national news had a field day. Except the whole thing might be BS.

Morales indicated in her Facebook post, and in subsequent interviews that the customer wrote that line.

But a family contacted NBC 4 New York claiming their receipt from the restaurant shows they did leave a tip, and provided what they said was a credit card statement as proof. The couple told NBC 4 New York that they believed their receipt was used for a hoax. The wife says she is left-handed and could not have made the slash in the tip line, which she said looks to be drawn from the right. (Via)

The Newsroom is gonna have a field day with this in, like, season seven, and it’s all because of:

just the tip
