Yesterday, we presented our list of the 10 best albums of the year. Today, we’re focusing solely on rock records, mostly because the “rock is dead” meme is infuriating to hear. Here are 10 records from 2013, leaving off selections we already covered in our general list, that rocked, rolled, or rocked AND rolled.

1. AM by Arctic Monkeys

The album that made Arctic Monkeys haters admit, “OK, I get it, 2006. They’re pretty good.”

2. …Like Clockwork by Queens of the Stone Age

Queens of the Stone Age turn down the volume, but lose none of their bewitching intensity.

3. I Hate Music by Superchunk

Superchunk may hate music, but we love Superchunk’s irresistible indie-rock songs with pop sensibilities.

4. Blowout by the So So Glos

Exuberantly punk, bursting with killer hooks, and most of all, a goddamn blast to listen to.

5. Monomania by Deerhunter

Garage rock that sounds like it was recorded in a darkened laboratory.
